I have had a brilliant experience with Dr. Mashru and Mr. Tony Adams when seeking an assessment and treatment for ADHD. It has really improved my quality of life. Both of these healthcare professionals are highly recommended. The only reason I haven't given five stars to Psychiatry UK is I was charged twice for an appointment, which I am sure is an honest mistake but they do tend to be expensive. So my advice would be it is definitely worth the money but check your invoices and billings carefully.

I was assessed by Dr Iyas Assalman via Psychiatry UK and had an excellent experience with him. His questioning was incisive enough to rule out other possible conditions or causes of my symptoms, but still supportive. He treated my accounts with credibility. Having done some research into his credentials it was clear that he had significant expertise with adult ADHD patients (which was what I needed) and indeed he did. I wanted to talk to someone with specialist knowledge but I didn't know whether the assessment itself would be invalidating or emotionally difficult. It wasn't at all--he was kind and an excellent listener. My experience so far with Psychiatry UK is still ongoing because I have yet to meet with a titration nurse to discuss my medication (they organise the private prescription). However, my experience so far has been super efficient and straightfoward. I could be assessed within a week and the fees, while expensive, were comparatively very reasonable, I guess as a result of the service being online. If you are like me, and you are wondering whether a formal diagnosis is worth getting--honestly, just do it. The validation of a lifetime of unhelpful to damaging behaviours alone is worth the cost of admission and it is hard to imagine any treatment being as powerful as knowing that these things were not your fault.

I had a private appointment with Dr Amir Tari and was very impressed. I had seen numerous positive reviews for the Psychiatry-UK process on a self-help group I was in and decided it was time for me to seek professional support. I liked the booking process and although there were some technical issues registering etc I gained a lot by being able to have a remote appointment. Namely sitting in a safe space to talk about how I was feeling, and already being home and warm when I had finished and needed some self care. Throughout the process Dr Tari was warm, enquiring, and supportive. I was surprised to have great aftercare provided as well - this made me feel like I was a patient, rather than an appointment and part of a caring service. I have been very pleased, and pleasantly susprised.

The organisation was undergoing computer-related difficulties when I phoned, but the lady on the other end was friendly and reassuring. I wish they would have allowed me to make an appointment online because the need to phone meant I delayed doing it. I find it difficult to make decisions on the on the fly and would have preferred to choose a psychiatrist in my own time rather than be assigned one. The quality of the video call was poor, but I anticipated this given the coronavirus situation meant many people are likely working from home and do not feel it had a particularly negative impact. Sadly I am not happy with the appointment itself. I found the assessment itself very stressful but reading the report I was sent it seems the psychiatrist did not notice, he thought I was calm and relaxed. Perhaps this is a shortcoming on the medium. I feel on the whole that doctor did not really listen to what I said, and he dismissed claims that I made about the difficulties I have had. For example, getting good exam results "proved" that I did not struggle at school when to me it felt like an uphill battle fighting against myself. Whole portions of relevant symptoms did not even appear in the report. The report makes several assertions that I do not believe to be correct, some of which I argued against at the time. In the end the psychiatrist denied me a diagnosis (which I acknowledge is his business) but made a pharmacological treatment recommendation that I told him I would refuse. He made it anyway, my GP offered it and I refused it. No alternative treatment was yet been offered. I wanted to know what some alternative conditions or treatments I could pursue were but none were forthcoming. So I have been put back to square one with no information to go on and, no matter how much I read, the original condition I was seeking diagnosis for is the only one is still the one only which has ticked the boxes. It has recently become a trend to acknowledge women's unique presentations of neurological conditions. Despite being a man I find I often identify more with the female stereotypical symptoms of these conditions (not just for the condition for which I was seeking diagnosis but also for prior diagnoses made separately from P-UK). I am left to wonder whether I would have been given a diagnosis had I been a woman.

I had my adult adhd assessment and diagnosis with Dr Richard Mellor, who I can't recommend highly enough. He was understanding and thorough throughout my assessment making me feel at ease at every point of the way. Any questions I've had have been answered promptly and I feel very well cared for. Carol, my titration nurse has also been very clear about the steps I need to take and has communicated everything promtly so I know what's happening. If you think you have adhd and want an assessment don't wait and psychiatry uk are great.
